August Evening

Rising shimmered night ascends
pushing pink to wake starred mauve,
the distant sea, the blackened hills,
slowly skeltered gulls unwind.
And out across the bay,
street lights advance in circuit
to pool at the village of white houses
we almost saw, when catching nymphs
in nets.
